My Little Boxer has a Mast Cell Tumor

My Little Boxer has a Mast Cell Tumor

My 1.5 year old boxer Mugsie was diagnosed today with a low grade mast cell tumor at the front and back of his ear. This explains the soo many problems we have had with him from when we adopted him 1 year and 2 months ago.

He has had a chronic urinary tract infection that took us 5 months to clear up. He has to have a vet brand food urinary SO. He also has had recurrent sheath infections.

Unfortunately removal of the tumor is not an option for us as it requires amputation of the ear followed by plastic surgery and we don't want to put him through that, especially since we went through losing our 3.5 year old boxer "Buddy" last year to a nasal tumor.

Our vet is a natural vet and hopefully will be able to come up with some Chinese herbs that will keep the tumor at bay and possibly reverse it. We will find out in a couple of days and keep our fingers crossed that it helps.

Does anyone have any suggestions that may help?

Thank you so much for your advice. I am looking into the Neoplasene option also. Having a little bit of a hard time getting it all figured out, but looks like a viable option.

remedies for: Schalene
by: my little boxer

Hi there, there is quite a list of remedies, I am introducing them slowly so as to not induce too much upset with his system, but here they are:

Antihistamine daily, preferably reactine not benadryl as reactine is better for them and won't make them drowsy. I give reactine daily as well as a homeopathic Apis (twice a week) the vet gives me.

Diet change: high protein/fat and low to no carb- mixed vegetables(ones low in sugar), blue, red and black fruit (also ones low in sugar) no strawberries (please research which fruit and vegetables dogs can and cannot have). All raw if not on chemo. Cancer feeds on sugar and carbs.
You can also give a raw egg on food (good for protein).

Take your dog off of commercial food all together but do it slowly by introducing raw meat (should be grain fed/free range meat if you can). Feeding raw meat with bones is great especially for their teeth, but if feeding raw meat without bone in it you will need to give a calcium supplement. If you like you can sear the meat lightly on both sides but keep it nice and rare inside. Try to stay away from pork if you can.

My vet mixes up a Chinese herbal remedy of Xue Fu, E Zhu (circumin) and San leng.

Vitamin D about 1000iu per day

Whole clove of garlic per day

Vitamin A 7500 iu per pound (of dog) per day
Canine antioxidant formula (contains 2000iu Vit A,C,E,Se,Zn)

Ascenta fish oil for EPA

Mushroom mix, or canine immune Reishi(shitake Echinacea and phytosterols) or Rx immune shitake plus.

Look on this site for the budwig's diet - part of it is a cottage cheese (low fat) or quark and flax seed oil mixture, supposed to help.

Here are what the objectives are: wear away at the tumor by inducing cell differentiation, inducing cell death, inhibiting cell metabolism, improving cell communication and growth control, inhibit blood vessel growth, inhibit cell invasion, inhibit metastasis, enhancement of immune function, eliminate risk factors, neutralize free radicals.

This is the breakdown:

Cell Differentiation: EPA,DHA (cold water fish oil) and vit D.

Apoptosis (tumor self destruction): circumin (E Zhu), EPA (fish oil, flavenoids (coloured vegetables and fruit)) raw garlic

Inhibit protein kinases (metabolism): circumin, EPA, DHA, vit D

Inhibit angiogenesis: circumin, EPA, DHA, flavenoids, garlic

Inhibit cell invasion: circumin, EPA, mushroom polysaccrides (reishi, shitake, all edible mushrooms are useful)

Inhibit metastsis: circumin, EPA,reishi mushroom, garlic, vitE

Enhance immune function: Reishi, mushroom polysaccrides

Hope this helps, it seems like a lot, but just do your research to find out where you can obtain these ingredients.

Remedies
by: Schalene

My Bernese Mountain dog, Lucy, who is only 4 yrs. old has been diagnosed with a Mast Cell Tumor on her right front paw. She has been to 2 vets and they are saying that she needs to have it cut off. Well in order to do this and get the margins, it would pretty much make her unable to walk ever again.

I can NOT do this to her. I am interested in ANY homeopatic remedies that you may be using. I have started her on some immune builders such as echinachea in a glyceride form, not alcohol form. I do give her the benadryl morning and night to combat the histamine. There is also a rescue remedy for pets that I am using. I put a poultice of pure honey and garlic at night on the spot that is inflamed.

Please give any other options that you may be using. This is such a sad thing for me to try to deal with. She is my baby and I feel terrible for her. She is still very full of life and does not show any signs of not feeling well.

Praying for you and your boxer
by: Anonymous

Wow, you have lost a young boxer at 3.5 and now one at only 1.5 that has a mast cell tumor... I feel for you and I will pray for you.

I thought I was the only one that was losing dogs at a younger age, I am glad I am not alone (though that is not much comfort). Since you have a vet that is a natural vet, I would go for the herbs. As I get older the more natural care I want for my dogs, the more I read the more I feel that is the way to go in so many ways.

Dogs, like people, need a strong immune system; things like cancer crop up when the immune system is compromised, and I think the natural remedies are the answer to boosting the immune system, naturally; whereas chemo and radiation destroy the immune system, what is the dog left to fight the cancer with? Not that its not a good choice for some people and their dogs; but in my experience the chemo was worse than the cancer, I did it once for one dog years ago thinking that was the best bet, but he suffered more from that than the cancer... it was horrible...

Good luck with your baby; I hope things work out.
