My Dog Lady

I know this forum is for natural remedies but is it OK to talk also about dog food?

I used to feed my dog Lady kibbles recommended by my vet, but with all the scary news recently about dog foods, I wanted something better for Lady. I did some research and finally got one of the natural dog food brands recommended on this site.

Within weeks, I can notice a change in Lady's energy level. Also, she smells much better (in the past, I thought it was just "normal" doggie smell that we all have to put up with). And her breath - oh, it's not stale any more!!!

I haven't done anything different except changing the food, so I can tell for sure that all these positive changes are a direct result of the natural food. I am so happy that I have done something good for my Lady!

Thanks a lot.

Natural pet food
by: Dawn

I was a groomer and dog trainer for 15 years and something I had learned quite a bit about was dog food.

Most skin allergies in dogs have to do with the food they are on. There are some great options for dogs like that and any dog really. Wellness is at the top of the list. You can get this food at just about any pet store, and in many forms. Natural Balance is another wonderful food, just stay away from anything fish based as the parent company uses a preservative that has been illegal for human consumption since 1970. If you're looking for a grain free food, Nature's Variety is the way to go and they also have a great line up of nutritious raw foods as well. There is no need to use supplements with their raw food either.

Always read the ingredient list on the dog foods you buy. Meat should always be the first ingredient. If the food has by-products put it back and find something that doesn't. All Natural, does not necessarily mean it's a good product. Case in point, look at the ingredient list of Beneful or even Eukenuba and see for yourself.

Thanks Christina for sharing your experience. Indeed, natural food makes a big difference - perhaps most noticeable is the hair coat and skin conditions. I am sure Lady is thankful!
