Benefits of Rooibos Tea for Dogs

Ever heard of Rooibos tea? Rooibos, aka "Red Bush", is an herbal plant from South Africa. The leaves are dried and used to make tea. It seems that many people like the taste of the tea, as well as the numerous health benefits it gives.

Health Benefits of Rooibos Tea

Rooibos tea is rich in vitamin C and various minerals (such as calcium, copper, fluoride, potassium, magnesium, iron, and more). It also contains bioflavonoid and quercetin.

The tea has been found to be anti-inflammatory and anti-viral. It can strengthen the heart and circulatory system, enhance the immune system, and since it is a powerful antioxidant, it can also prevent cancer and slow down the aging process. Moreover, it has a calming effect and can help fight anxiety.

If it can do so much wonders to people, by extension it can also benefit our dogs. Since the tea is caffeine-free, it doesn't harm to give it to our dogs as well!

How Can Our Dogs Benefit from Rooibos Tea?

Since it is anti-inflammatory, it can be used to help dogs with skin problems resulting in itching and skin irritation. Dogs with allergies such as atopic dermatitis can benefit as well.

Older dogs can benefit from the tea's antioxidant and immune-boosting properties. It may help prevent certain cancer in dogs. (In fact, one visitor to my website wrote me and claimed that Rooibos tea actually cured his dog with lymphoma. I have tried to find more anecdotal success stories on Rooibos tea for canine cancer, but couldn't find any on the Internet. Have you tried using this tea to treat a dog with cancer? If so, please let me know!)

Finally, if your dog is suffering from anxiety or is easily excited, try using this tea to calm him/her down.

How To Give Rooibos Tea To Dogs?

Cinnamon Rooibos Tea

Simply steep a Rooibos teabag in hot water for a few minutes and discard the teabag. Let it cool and add a bit of cinnamon powder (1/8-1/2 teaspoon depending on the dog's size) to the tea. You can also add a bit of local honey or Manuka honey to the tea. It's delicious and my dog is crazy about it!

Rooibos Yogurt

Open a Rooibos teabag and sprinkle the dried tea onto some plain yogurt and give it to your dog as a treat!

Topical Use

You can also use Rooibos tea topically on skin problems such as hot spots and irritation.

Steep 2 Rooibos teabags in hot water for about 10-15 minutes. Discard the teabags. Allow the "tea" to cool down and add 1/4 cup of organic apple cider vinegar to the "tea". Mix well and use it as a rinse.

You can also use the above tea and ACV mixture as a foot soak for dogs with yeasty and itchy paws due to yeast infections.

Our Website Is Getting a New Look

Some of you may have already noticed that our website Natural Dog Health Remedies is undergoing some construction work and some pages have already been given a brand new look!

Yes - I have been working pretty hard to update and upgrade the site so that hopefully it can look nicer and more professional, and be more user-friendly to visitors. The new design also looks better and is easier to navigate on mobile devices such as tablets and smart phones.

Since my site has over 500 pages, it may take several months for me to complete the make-over. Please bear with me and I promise the end result will be worth the confusion!

Please feel free to contact me and let me know if you like the site's new look. Please also tell me what kind of new information you want to see on my website in the upcoming months.

Thank you for your patience and continued support.

Until next time... Enjoy the warm Spring sun!
