Our Shih Tzu Roxy has Lymphoma

by Kathleen Bauer
(Plainfield, IL)

I took our sweet 7 year old shih tzu, Roxy, to the vet 2 days ago because she had a sore on her leg. The vet was checking her out and noted that her glands were enlarged on her neck. I started to feel there as well and lo and behold one side was huge. It is probably the size of a golf ball.

The reason we never noticed was because she has this "beard" that is really fluffy. We are always petting and the kids give her little kisses on her head. We never even noticed (which really aggrevates me now) this gland was so big!! So the vet did a needle aspiration and sent it in and yesterday I got the call from him that it is "lymphoma".

My heart is completely broken over this. I won't give up the fight but am so sad. She is just the best little dog. She has a brother shih tzu and he and her play and get along so great - I just can't imagine his life without his playmate and sister.

I am trying that Essaic tea and have to figure out what to do next. I want natural remedies - no chemo for her. The crazy thing is she doesn't seem sick at all!! She is running around, eating and playing like normal. We won't give up the fight but it is so hard...:(

So sorry
by: Anonymous

So sorry to hear about your sweet Roxy. I just got home from the vet's office with my eight year old Shih Tzu. Her lymph nodes are swollen and the vet strongly suspects lymphocytic leukemia. Sent samples off to the best veterinary University in the world. Wishing the best of luck to you, and others who are going through this. Would love to get an update on your story and see how things are going for ya'll.

Sympathy

I'm so sorry to hear about Roxy; I got the same news about my Gia (10yr old shih tzu) this week. It is heartbreaking and impossible to imagine life without these amazing, fluffy little angels.
