Our 12 year old princess has liver cancer

Hi all,

Our baby girl who will be 12 years old 11/03/09 was diagnosed with metastatic liver cancer 10/02/09. The wind was taken out of our lungs. She has been the biggest blessing of our lives, has never caused trouble, has never asked for or expected anything but has always given unconditional love. Now she is in the literal fight of her life. We have chosen to allow her to live her final days with dignity and hopefully without too much pain. Our only prayer is that we have been able to show her how much she has been loved over the past 12 years. How in the world do us humans ever recover from such a loss. We can not begin to imagine the pain we will endure. There isn't anything that can be done for her, we just wanted to share what a beautiful little being she is and always will be in our hearts. We love you Sandra Dee!

Thank you for your kind words. We are moving on with Sandy in our hearts and minds forever. My heart breaks for you and I cry for your precious Beri. Do write Beri's story for all to know what a beautiful baby she is. I'd love to keep in touch with you on how you and she are doing. Do consider sharing a picture so we can all see what a brave little lady she is. Please enjoy every moment you have with her. In my constant thoughts and prayers.

Prayers for You

I am sending my prayers for your family in healing from this tragedy. I am in the same boat as my 17 year old corgi was diagnosed with liver cancer last week. I have been a wreck, and am in alot of pain already. I am so sorry about Sandy. When I read your description of her, I felt like I was reading about my sweet girl, Beri. I don't know how anyone gets through this. Beri is still with me, but the prognosis is poor and we don't know how long. I loved what you did taking her to her favorite places and seeing people. I plan to do that too. God bless you and I wish I could give you big hugs. I hear and know from my past dogs, that eventually the pain does go away. Hard to imagine though, right now.

Hi, Rick & Brenda,

Checked my site yesterday after a week's traveling and was so saddened to read that Sandy had gone.

I know exactly how you feel, having lost my own pets in the past. It takes a long time to feel better but you will. And Sandy will always be with you, in your heart. Treasure the good memories but enjoy the present and the future too!

Please continue to contribute to this forum. Use your experience to help other dog parents who are going through what you have gone through. I am sure they will all appreciate your thoughts and help.

Update on our beautiful baby girl

A quick thank you to everybody who read our baby girl's story and/or dropped a note. We are very very proud of our precious girl and sadly must report that she lost her short battle with cancer 10/18/09. We took her to her favorite park to do some sniffing and then went to see her favorite doctor where we gave her our love and blessing to go to heaven to be with grandma and grandpa and her best friend Frankie the cat. We are in so much pain but her love and all of her beautiful memories will get us thru until we are able to be with her again. Knowing that we WILL be with her again will keep us strong. We love you very much Sandy and are so proud and blessed to have had you in our family.
