Blue outside in the backyard

My dog (Blue) 7 yrs old in July, has just been diagnosed with Lymphosarcoma. I am at a loss. I have been reading up on this specific cancer. He is a Catahoula Leopard.

He was at the vet in March to get a cortisone injection and his weight was 75#. I took him back 6 weeks later, for another injection and his lymph nodes were swollen in his groin area, legs, neck, chest and his spleen as well. He was also down to 66.5# now.

His vet did a cytology of his lymh node in the leg and the cells were crazy, suggested biopsy. I left him there that day and this Fri. - one week later - the results are Lymphosarcoma.

I am not able to do Chemo and I am looking for a more Holistic approach, so I have seen a few helpful notes. Anyone with input, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,
Dolly and her girls

Immunity Booster
by: Ann-Marie

Dolly,

First let me just say how sorry I am to hear that your dog has cancer. I know it must be tough 'cause my baby had the same thing. She died last winter.

She had chemo and we got an extra 6 months of quality time with her. We gave her only natural food and supplements - try the Only Natural Pet immune strengthener - I think it really worked well to strengthen her immunity. Also fatty acids and cottage cheese. These can make your dog stronger and more energetic and hopefully you can enjoy more quality time with your dog.

Good luck!

Holistic Treatment for Dog Lymphosarcoma
by: Hazel

Hi, Dolly,

Sorry to hear that Blue has been diagnosed with lymphosarcoma.

Is there a reason why you are unable to do chemo? I found in my research on this topic that chemo seems to be the best bet for canine lymphosarcoma.

In particular, weekly chemo using different anticancer medications seems to produce the best result. According to Dr. Messonnier (author of Preventing and Treating Cancer in Dogs), here is an effective protocol of chemotherapy:

Use of Oncovin for Week 1
Use of Cytoxan for Week 2
Use of Adriamycin for Week 3
Week 4 - no treatment
Then repeat the cycle of treatment for 4-6 months.

The above treatment can achieve a period of 4-10 months of drug-free remission before replase occurs.

During remission, you can use nutritional supplements (Omega-3 Fatty Acids, Antioxidants such as Vit. E and CoQ-10) to support your dog's immune system. Fresh veggies such as kale, cabbage, and garlic are beneficial as well.

A special cancer diet, such as Hill's Canine N/D is suggested by Dr. Messonnier.

If for whatever reason you decide not to use chemotherapy, maybe you could consider the Budwig Diet and Essiac Tea (see my Cancer Diet and Herbs for Cancer pages).

I hope the above helps, but please do consult with your vet before trying out the remedies and supplements suggested here.

Good luck! Please keep us informed about Blue's progress.
