Tyson. xxxx

BORN 20.01.1998. I have to have my dog put down tomorrow, 3.04.09 which is killing me. He is 11 years old, great dane X setter, and I have had him since he was a puppy. I saw him pop out and fell in love with him then.

And now he has bone cancer - I found out on Monday when he went for an x-ray. The cancer has eaten nearly all of his big bone in his leg, so there is only his small bone that is holding him up.

He has been with me 24 hours a day, as I used to take him to work with me too. It is the hardest decision I've had to make, but I can't let him suffer.

If you look at him, he is still a happy dog - eating, drinking, playing with toys & his brother... I just can't have it in my head if he breaks his leg... I am going to miss him so much. He has been a super dog and has been very faithful to me for all those years, but I have to let him go.

He has been on a supplement called "joint aid" which has been brilliant, and I recommend it to anyone whose dogs' legs are failing. My mum and dad's dog (Tyson's brother) has been on it a while for his legs and it has given him a new lease of life.

I am sorry my story isn't good news; I just hope other people know what I am going through.

Good night my boy,
I will never forget you!

I feel for you Andy and Tyson
by: Simon

I'm sure you'll meet Tyson again. Every living creature is animated by a spirit that never dies. Tyson's spirit lives on and may even be with you now. My par?ner's dog cody died, she swears she has felt his presence. She went to a spiritual clairvoyant, who was a complete stranger. She didn't know Kerry or that cody was her dog. The clairvoyant said she recognised a big furry dog near her. Cody was a 60kg malamute, beautiful dog, very sweet natured.

This probably isn't any consolation but i find it soothing when i think of my pets that have passed on.

Anyway my heart goes out to you and Tyson.

Simon

Sleep Well, Tyson
by: Hazel

Thank you for letting us know about Tyson, Andi. Both you and Tyson were very brave.

Don't feel bad about making me cry. That's what this forum's for - To share our joy as well as sorrow as dog parents. If you could feel just a bit better because you've got some mental support from us here, then I'd be very happy!

Take care Andi and please return frequently to let us know how you are doing.

he's asleep. :( :(
by: Andi, tyson,s mum

THANKS TO HAZEL & SUE, i did what i had to do, and took my boy... i nearly turned back and changed my mind, i tried to stay strong for him, but broke down, he lay on my legs while the vets put the injection into his leg, and peacefully went to sleep. its only been a day and im still so upset, and thinking hope i did the right thing, which i know deep in my heart i had to, but that doesnt help, i miss him so much. ive even had to get another car because that was his car & all his hair was still in there, but he wasnt. im having him cremated, and he will be back again with me, like my other dog i lost 10 years ago. then when i ever go, they will be in my box too. i took his collar off and that lives in my hand bag, so he's still with me. I am sorry i made sue and hazel cry, but i really think sharing your thoughts with people who have been through the same thing really helps, people who aren't animal lovers or have never owned any kind of pet, just don't understand. so thanks to all the people who care. Rainbow Bridge
by: Sue

I read your post Andi and I cried. I just lost my baby (4year-old Lab) to liver cancer a month ago...

You may have read this poem before, but please read it again. It makes you feel better.

**************

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

So sorry...
by: Hazel, Site Editor

Andi, I am so sorry about Tyson. Your story has brought tears to my eyes. I can understand how you feel completely, because I've also had the experience of having my family's old dog put down. I knew it was for his own good, but I couldn't help feeling guilty...

I hope you will be strong tomorrow for Tyson. Do not get too upset in front of him because he can sense your emotions. Stay calm and try to comfort him as much as you can so that he can pass calmly and peacefully.

We will all be thinking of you and Tyson. You are not alone.
