Italian Greyhound just diag. with some sort of tumor

by Danielle
(Newark, DE)

I am at a total loss. The love of my life, Cooper (Italian Greyhound) was just diagnosed yesterday with some type of cancer. They are not 100% sure what type it is but I am being told it is a matter of time and he will not longer be alive. They can't do anything. There is a tumor in his abdomen. It is currently wrapping itself around the abdominal aorta. Urine is backing up into his kidneys. He has no appetite, all he does is drink and sleep. He has a tiny bit of diarrhea.

I have been told that I need to make a decision. I don't want my baby to suffer but it is so hard. When he is up, he is happy. When someone walks in the door, he is happy to see them. I'm having a really hard time and not willing to give up.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to help my baby? I have been researching high protein/low carb diets and also using herbs. I've found a few but it is all too overwhelming. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

diet

Juicing may work to get the veggies into him. Large amounts of food at any one time will cause vomiting...you need to give small frequent amounts throughout the day.

what I came up with
by: Danielle

Thanks for writing. I really appreciate it. Here's what I have come up with. I have started him on the Budwig diet 2 times a day. Added a multi vitamin, a probiotic/enzyme powder, CAS Options (immune booster) and BSST formula for cancer (Essiac Formula). He gets the Budwig diet in the morning and at night. His mid day meal is some type of protein. He gets the multi vitamin and BSST 2 times a day, the CAS Options 3 times a day and the probiotic/enzyme once a day. He doesn't take the Budwig diet voluntarily so I have resorted to watering it down and using a turkey baster to give it to him. I am only giving him about 2 Tablespoons at a time.

Anybody have any good ways to get veggies in him since he doesn't take much voluntarily?

I have noticed his veins on his back end are starting to pop out more and more. I would guess thats part of the tumor wrapping itself around the aorta?

Do I need to be more aggressive with this? I am afraid to over feed him because of the size of the tumor and it may be pressing on his belly. He vomitted this morning about 1/2 hour after I gave him the Budwig diet. Not your normal vomit...it was yellow and could see a little of the cottage cheese. Is there anything else I can do? I called a Holistic vet this morning and told her what I was told and she said that there is basically nothing she could do and that all I was doing was what she would recommend.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated. I am having a horrible time with this. Sometimes I feel so good about what I am doing and other time I feel helpless.

There are vets who specialize in dogs with cancer, and a second opinion is certainly needed...you need to do this as quickly as possible since your pup will weaken from not eating. If this is cancer, then traditional treatments would need to be started (surgery, chemo, radiation) asap, plus a good diet with herbs to boost the immune system. How do they know it's actually cancer? Did they do a biopsy?
My pup also had what looked like cancer... enlargening lump in her groin, dark discharge from the breast directly beside the lump, and 3 spots on her lungs. After major surgery, we find out that she was having a false pregnancy creating the breast discharge, she has a hernia, and what appears to be bronchitis in her lungs due to her snorting up junk on her walks...so things may be happening that look like cancer when it's not cancer.

I also read a lot about cancer in dogs/humans...I read that mirtazapine (antidepressant) can increase appetite in dogs, and assist with mast cell tumours which secrete histamine and also prevent cancers from metastasizing. Also look into the Budwig diet for dogs...I'm still using the cottage cheese/flax daily to assist healing and it appears to be helping energy level in my pup. There are antibiotics that have anticancer effects such as Doxycycline, so look this up. I really like the chinese herb astragalas...good research studies on boosting immune system function to fight cancer...it's also safe for dogs.

My heart goes out to you as I know what the feeling is when you fear that your dog has cancer...please keep us posted.
