Kasey Jones

Kasey is one of our 3 golden retrievers. He is 10 years old and the senior of the bunch.

About 3 weeks ago he had a grand mal seizure. Took him to the vet - lab work was done and all was good. We made the decision to wait and see.

Well sure enough, about a week and half later he had another seizure. This one seemed a bit worse - or it was just more difficult to watch it happen again.

Now we are talking about the possiblity of a brain tumor and options to go to an area where an MRI and other testing can be done and, if tumor is confirmed, the possibility of surgery.

My husband is not hesitating. I am concerned of putting Kasey through this - he is very timid, and he is 10 years old. If he was 6 years old, I probably wouldn't hesitate but... So many questions.

What have others experienced?

Airedale brain tumor
by: pat burkhart,CA

We had a similar situation with our beloved airedale terrier, Murphy, who was 11 yrs. old. He had a grand mal seizure, and we took him to urgent care - they told us that they could put him on seizure medication, but if it was a brain tumor it would happen again soon. We decided not to do the seizure meds but to see if it was a brain tumor - he was getting old, and sure shooting - we took him home and he had another within three hours.

Rather than put this dog through a gruesome surgery and recovery, chemo etc., we did put him down. I was so so sad, but we have friends who put their dog through the surgery and he died two weeks after surgery - so we did not want Murphy's last days to be spent recovering from a gruesome surgery.

I am so so sorry about your dog.
