Fibrosarcoma in 10 year old male Husky

by Linda Kay
(North Carolina)

Stoli my rescued blue-eyed red boy was diagnosed with fibrosarcoma almost a year ago. Although his tumor on his right rear knee has grown from the size of a quarter to being larger than a grapefruit, he is doing great! My vet says if he is not limping he is not in pain and thus far no limp.

We go for long leash walks every single day regardless of the weather. I tried to put him off one day when we were having severe thunder storms all day long and he was so upset with me I finally took him anyway. He was relentless about having his daily walk.

I love this gentle creature with all my heart. Regardless of what others have said and written about the Siberian Husky breed this dog does not have an agressive bone in his body, nor has he ever attacked a cat! As a matter of fact, my cat sometimes goes on walks with us.

My preference for this particular breed goes back many many years. I bought my first one from a breeder in the '70's but the rest of the huskies who "owned" me have been rescued dogs either from shelters or rescue organizations. I have never had a "bad" one and there have been many. I think I first zeroed in on this breed because of my love of wolves and the resemblance therein. I wish I could have saved more than I have and also wish I could have a second life to do so.

When the time comes for Stoli to cross over the rainbow bridge (and I will not let him suffer!) he will have a private cremation. Upon my death his ashes, his soul-mate Sasha's and mine will all be joined together for all eternity in a predetermined place of beauty.

God Bless You All who have either lost your best friend or who are now dealing with that happening soon. Be brave and enjoy life to the fullest for each good day you have with him/her. Peace be with you always.

fibrosarcoma in 10 year old male Husky
by: Linda

I failed to mention in my original posting all the wonderful herbal treatments available to dogs with cancer. The first treatment I used was simply called fibrosarcoma and was in liquid form and shipped from Australia. Stoli, though suspicious of new "additions" to his diet, took this remedy well. I did not re-order though because I was told there was always a possibility of the package being confiscated. ( I assumed because of it being shipped from Australia?) I then purchased Paw Paw Cell -Reg and Grapine with Protectors from a local herbal remedies store. The staff there was wonderful, well-informed and had the complete backing of a well-known and highly regarded vet in this area. I can not say if these were helpful or not because Stoli would have nothing to do with either of them no matter how I disguised them! If you have similar problems with your dog I would suggest remedies in liquid forms or capsules you can open and "hide."
In closing I would like to add a suggestion given to me by my sister who shares with me a great love of dogs. When Stoli was diagnosed with his cancer and all possible treatments discussed I was so stressed and upset with no clue as to what actions to take. My sister said I should ask my vet what SHE would do if this were her beloved dog. I did just that-and her answer was "I would do nothing." (meaning no leg amputation, chemo/radiation) This is an excellent question to ask your vet and one I will never again forget to ask. God Bless.

Linda,

Sorry to hear that your boy Stoli has fibrosarcoma, but I am glad that he has no pain so far. I hope he will continue to do well. I am sure you are taking very good care of Stoli and he appreciates you and your love.

Your love of dogs (particularly Huskies?) shines through for all of us to share! On behalf of all dog lovers: Thank you Linda for rescuing all those Huskies!

Please do keep us informed about Stoli's condition.
