Bracken`s story
by Joan

Thirty three months ago, I was running with my adopted brother Mac! We were having such fun (I like to run). But then suddenly on cornering it happened! My right back leg gave way under me. WOW!!!! The pain was bad. My mum saw what happened and straight away came to my rescue carrying me home, because I couldn`t walk - it was so painful!
The next day a trip to the vets - my mum said no painkillers. X-rays straight away cos I was suffering. Torn cruciate was the diagnosis. Surgery was booked for the following day.
And so it started. Mum did physio for the first 2 weeks, then hydrotherapy for 10 sessions. Yikes! All went well. Two weeks after the hydrothearapy had finished, mum noticed I was in pain so back to the vets - more X-rays. The X-rays showed rapid degeneration of the bone. This meant one thing! Bone cancer !!!
Thankfully I have been having chemotherapy every 21 days and I'm still running, playing, eating normally, going for my walks, going in the car, have no fur loss, no sickness - basically doing things I've always done except having those yearly 'booster' injections, although still have flea repellent put on me and wormed. (tut!)
I am lucky, am I not? My mum does worry though.
Hope this is helpfull to other mums & dads.
Regards
Bracken xx.
P.S. I forgot to say I'm 12+ years old.
