Battling the Big C :(

by Kate
(Wales - UK)

Hi guys,

Just found this website - which has given me something to pro-actively do/try (vitamins/supplements) etc.

My poor baby, Mia, a 2 year old lab (who by the way is the most perfect creature you could ever meet) was diagnosed with canine bone cancer - there's no cure - they cannot operate as it is on her pelvis, and from the x-ray, is very advanced.

We have been given a few weeks, and we are totally distraught.

Is there anything anyone has tried (successfully) to assist with symptoms? I know there is no cure, but we would love as much time with her as possible (providing she is still as healthy as she is now).

Thanking you in advance,
Kate

Does anyone know herbal remedies for brain cancer ?
by: Tracy

My beautiful 6 year old boxer had a back surgery in September and when she returned home, she exhibited neurological problems. She had a spinal tap in October that had elevated white cells, so the vet put her on dexamethazone to control any seizures. This protocol worked until last week when seizures increased and we decided to get an MRI done. The MRI is showing a mass and the vet feels that she has inoperable brain cancer. Has anyone had any success with herbal or conventional remedies? Please help !!!!

Might help
by: Sydney's Dad

My dog just died from a fracture related to her osteosarcoma. She went lame shortly after it was diagnosed. We started on a treatment of pau d'arco tea which helped with her pain within less than a week. She was able to walk again for the next few weeks before an unrelated neurological issue made her lose control of her hind legs. It is very hard to find non-molested pau d'arco bark in the US. I finally found mine at www.pricetea.com. It is very inexpensive ( <$25 per month). I used to mix it with equal parts of chicken soup to get my dog to drink it.

Good luck. Hug your pup for me.

Canine Bone Cancer
by: Hazel

Hi, Kate,

Sorry to hear that your dog Mia has bone cancer. For very advanced bone cancer in dogs, there is really not much we can do, except to make life as comfortable as possible for the dog.

Having said that, however, while researching on canine cancer, I know quite a few people have had success (i.e. having more quality time with their dogs) with:

- Essiac Tea
- Cottage cheese and flaxseed oil.

Since Mia has bone cancer, it may be helpful to also give her Glucosamine supplements.

In addition, antioxidants such as coenzyme Q10, vitamin E, medicinal mushrooms, etc. may also help. (Check with your vet first before giving Mia any supplements).

The main purpose of giving the dog all these supplements is to strengthen her immune system so she can fight "the big C" and hopefully can spend longer quality time with you.

Good luck - and keep us informed of her progress!
