Anal Gland Cancer

by Kathryn Pomroy
(Duluth, MN)

Winston is nine years old, and was just recently diagnosed with anal cancer. The vet(s) have said it is too far along to do 'anything'. However, I am not at a place to just let him go. I also do not want him to suffer, so I have started looking into natural remedies but have no idea where to start.

I am a bit angry, as Winston just had surgery on both his back legs. We were looking forward to long walks and running on the beach. Now he (or so I am told) will do neither. They have given him 45 days at the max.

I need help - so does Winston. I see many natural herbs mentioned, but can't give him everything and want only the best for him. Can anyone give me some advice? I'd appreciate everyone's opinion. Thanks.

Winston
by: Anonymous

Sorry I didn't update this earlier... but Winston died on August 11, 2010. I was visiting my mother when I got the call from my husband, so I didn't even get to say goodbye. Prior to me leaving, the vet told me he was doing well and looked good, which I might add, was to his surprise. If I would've thought he would die when I was away, I never would have gone.

Anyway, I will probably never have another dog. I did do something quite unlike me, I got a tattoo with Winston's name. I will never lose him again.

This is tough - I never expected to love a pet so much. By the way, thanks for all the support by everyone who wrote while we were dealing with the cancer. Appreciate your prayers and kind words.

Anal gland cancer medication support
by: Rita

I have a 8 1/2 year old female shepherd who was dx'd with anal gland cancer back earlier this year. After getting the horrible news, I started doing some research online and found this website Robert McDowell's Herbal Treatments.

I ordered the anal gland cancer support right away, Roxanne has been taking this medication for about 5 weeks we went to the vet on 5/20/2011 for a routine exam and they gave us great news in just a short time on the medication her anal glands have cleared up there is no more blood in them, and the tumor that was in her left gland has gotten smaller.... YEA !!!!!!!!!!!! I recommend anyone who has a furry friend with this problem give this medication a try go to www.herbal-treatments.com.

Anal glad cancer
by: Debra

Hi.

I'm sorry to hear about Winston. Our Golden Spencer died of anal gland cancer on July 30th 2010.

He lived a year after having two surgeries, pallative radtiation and chemo. He was on the new
drug Palladia. He lived a really great year - still being able to hike and walk and he even went
cross country skiing with us.

We love you Spencer and we really miss you.

Please make sure you veterinarian does anal exams - ours did not not.

Winston..
by: Carol

I'm sorry to hear about Winston! My dog has anal gland cancer too...she was diagnosed almost two years ago. Her tumor has grown so much and as of today, June 6, 2010, she cannot go to the bathroom and can barely walk. It's so heartbreaking and I do not want her to suffer!

Concerning Winston though, has your vet put him on a steroid?? My dog's cancer is not treatable either, but she was put on a steroid right away and it made a huge difference in her quality of life. Also, I started feeding her people food back in January, rice and baby food mostly (apple sauce, sweet potatoes, peas..) with some chicken or turkey mixed in...the very soft food has helped her pass her stool easier since her rectum has gotten so closed up from her tumor. I also mix in some chicken broth with it. She gobbles it up! I hope this helps, and I hope you have more quality time with Winston than you have been told you have! God bless you and Winston!
