15 yr old lab with oral melanoma - help

by Jane
(SC)

Here I go again....5 yrs ago lost my Jack Russell to Hemangiosarcoma after cancer treatments....now I have a white female lab just diagnosed with oral melanoma, stage 2.

Would like to go the natural way at this point. Someone please help me with some suggestions.....I work for a vet that is into Homeopathy so I have access to herbs, etc.

Thank you.

oral melanoma

Just saw video of Dr. Oz show re William Li (physician and cancer drug researcher) and his antiangiogenesis treatment which is a blood supply starving cancer tumor. Referred to treatment of tumors in dogs and refers to using a topical paste that had good results. Maybe it can help you. We have a rescue lab that is dealing with elevated liver enzymes and have started her on milk thistle since all tests have come back negative for tumor etc. William Li refers to milk thistle in his lecture. Very interesting and I hope that it helps you.

Lab with Oral Melanoma
by: Hazel

Hi, Jane,

So sorry to hear that your white lab has oral melanoma. Because of the location of the cancer, oral melanoma is usually quite hard to treat.

I assume that you already know about the importance of diet for dogs with cancer - whole food diets are best, with reduced carbohydrates and increased proteins (35-50%) plus increased fiber (lightly cooked veggies are good).

As for supplements, antioxidants, Omega 3 fatty acids, digestive enzymes, and super greens are beneficial. You may also want to discuss with your doctor about the use of more cancer-specific supplements such as Beta Glucans, DMG, Glandulars, and Anti-Angiogenesis (Angiogensis is the process of the production of new blood vessels. Anti-angiogenesis inhibits the production thus it may slow or inhibit cancer mass to grow).

Recently, during my research, I have come across an immune-enhancing herbal formula called "Life One Formula" (for people) by Life One. They also have a product for pets called "PetLife" which looks good. Please check it out.

Finally, since your doctor is into homeopathy, discuss with him/her about the possibility of using Homotoxicology in conjunction with conventional treatment. Homotoxicology is a method of treatment using combination homeopathic remedies. Usually, one remedy is used to target the internal disease (e.g. oral melanoma) and one or two other remedies are used to treat the symptoms caused by the disease (e.g. bleeding, pain, etc.) It is also a great way of safe detox for dogs with cancer. It seems that homotoxicology can bring about faster results than homeopathy.

Hope this helps and best of luck. Please keep us informed of your doggie's progress.
